about

Music has been part of my life since a young age (quite a very long time ago :-)) where I used to study the piano and later on trying to follow on my father's, Victor Fenech, and grand father Mro. Joseph Fenech footsteps where it comes to music composition. I do remember the days when I came up with a tune and played it to my father and discussed with him ways to improve it and taking it to the next level. Awesome times, and great memories, still fresh in my mind. However, due to other priorities in my life, whether it was studies, career, family and many more, I ended up not giving music my full attention, and as time went by, while I still played the piano for my pleasure, composition and even more so performance wise kind of mellowed away.

Last year, due to the COVID-19 situation, I found myself with ample time to pursue on it again. Working from home meant that I was spending more time in the same place and as such I had to find new ways to use the time at home differently. One of my dreams and one that has been collecting dust in my ToDo closet for a very long time, started to take shape, that of recording enough tracks within a relatively short span of time in order to create an album. To be honest, it was the thing that kept me sane while spending more time closed within the four walls of home due to the pandemic. Family was always there, and I have to thank my wife and children for they were very supportive during this period. However, being a person who used to meet with so many people due to work and other commitments, such confinement meant that mentally I was getting this feeling of isolation. Music provided means of addressing this. While the first tracks composed and recorded were more on a melancholic mood, relatively slow and low profile (case in point being 'Solitude' and 'Chants of Glory'), the more time went by, the tracks were becoming more vivid and lively, such as the case of the tracks 'Hand in hand' and 'Sleepless nights'.

To cut a long story short, with six to seven tracks already done, it was getting clearer that my dream could eventually materialise. Time was also approaching for my fiftieth birthday, and sometime in May while working on the song that eventually got the name '50' became the title track of the album. The whole album project kind of fell in place and work was done to have it released as close as possible to my birthday. All the songs are my compositions, arrangements and mixing are also mine. I'm not a producer and am not going to pretend that I became one over the past year. This was just something I wanted to do, and worked hard to get it done. The whole project was a learning experience and with ample time available to experiment, study, head bang and nail biting while looking for the ideal chord or the suitable sound to match what I had in mind and convey it to the tracks. All in all, one might say this was a nine month project and a whole lot more of an awesome experience. With some planning, and still a few fine tuning required to complete the album, finally all worked well and the album was eventually released on my birthday on all the major streaming platforms.

Now, fingers crossed, the album is out and I am looking forward for you to enjoy the end result as much as I had fun working on it. There were times where I ended up spending hours working on a song without noticing for how long, only to find out everyone is fast asleep and me still hyper from the adrenaline rush of getting that sound right in place, or getting the chord I was looking for to bridge between one part to another of the song.

While I am not planning a career change in the near future, the whole point of sharing this album was, first and foremost, to have more people listen to my music, and possibly inspire others to pursue their dreams, even if such dreams will not take you places. For me getting this music out was quite liberating and rekindled my interest in music, not only as a listener but rather as a creator. Let's hope for more positivity and as always let music to get all of us closer. Meanwhile I invite you to keep following me on this page, as more music is in the pipeline. Who knows, it might be new friendships are born and collaborations introduced, and the experience will eventually be broader and fruitful.

about

Stanley Fenech Malta

Music has been one of my passions for as long as I remember. I like to experiment with styles and hate to build restrictive boundaries. If it touches my inner self and can be translated to notes and sounds then I will let it out, for the rest to share.
